What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced "Ray- Key") is a simple Japanese method of energy balancing that is used throughout the world by millions of people. It is well known as a "hands-on treatment technique", although some Reiki practitioners use a "hands off method".

Where is Reiki from?

Mikao Usui developed Reiki in the early 1900's in Japan. It took many years to learn the art of Reiki, with many of the students staying at the 1st degree level. Over the years through a linage of "Reiki Masters" Reiki was introduced to the Western World. Reiki as we know it today is used for self-healing, for spiritual or self-development and to treat others. Reiki Practitioners meditate regularly, treat themselves and follow a simple set of Spiritual Reiki Principles.


How can Reiki help me?

Anyone can benefit from Reiki, no matter what your age or state of health, and beneficial changes can take place over a fairly short space of time.

Reiki can produce:

What happens during a Reiki Session?

Reiki is a simple process, which requires the client to be fully clothed. The client will be invited to relax on the treatment couch and the practitioner will gently lay their hands on the body in a series of hand positions on the head, torso and legs, sometimes hovering the hands rather than touching. Each hand position is held for a few minutes, although this can last much longer should there be need. During the treatment, energy (called Chi) is drawn through the practitioner into the recipient, helping to produce a state of balance.

What happens during a treatment?

  • Deep relaxation
  • Heat from the practitioners hands
  • Coldness from the practitioners hands
  • Tingling sensations
  • A feeling of floating or sinking
  • Colours
  • Vibrations
  • Perhaps nothing at all. It varies from one person to another.

After a Treatment

Expect to feel tired after a treatment, but also very relaxed. It is advised to try and relax afterwards and to drink plenty of water over the next few days as this will help to release the toxins. A general feeling of wellbeing can be experienced, although some people may not feel anything. A full list of what to expect after a treatment will be given by your practitioner.

How many Treatments?

While a one off treatment will be beneficial for you, bringing a sense of calm and peacefulness, and maybe producing some short-term physical benefits too, the best results come through having a course of treatments, maybe 4-6 sessions at weekly intervals. The effects of Reiki build up cumulatively, and having a course of treatments helps to produce long-term beneficial changes for individuals on all levels.
